2. Peel the pouch: Before proceeding, open the swab package, taking care not to allow the swab head to come into contact with any surfaces or contaminants.
3. Gently scrape: With the subject's mouth slightly open, use the swab to gently scrape the buccal mucosa on the inside of the mouth, usually in the area between the upper and lower teeth. It is recommended to rotate the swab and scrape multiple areas to increase cell collection.
4. Avoid irritation: During the collection process, move gently to avoid inducing a gag reflex or excessive discomfort in the patient.
5. Store properly: Place the swab with cells collected in a preservation solution or sealed container, making sure the swab is completely immersed in the liquid.
6. Label the sample: Label the container to accurately record the subject's information and data such as the time and place of sample collection.
